My Car, My Mods
Here's what I've done to my car.
Gruppe M Air intake.
I've tried three different air intakes on my car. And at this point, I'm wishing I hadn't. I am still a firm believer in well designed air intakes. The problem here is that for the B6 S4, there is no such thing as a "well designed" air intake. All of them are wrought with openings and wide gaps that allow the million degree engine bay air to be ingested by the intake. Even if the stock airbox is more restricted, it is a sealed enclosure that allows no hot engine bay ir into the system. So, my advice... Add a K&N drop in filter replacement and call it a day. $49 vs. $350.
The cold air intake I'm currently using is also the most expensive unit out there at about $850 before shipping from Japan.
Here's a thief making off with a part before I had a chance to install...
Here's the pre-installed intake body. Very nice carbon fiber work, btw.
Lastly, here's the installed intake.
Custom Exhaust System
Like the intake, this is my third exhaust system. My first exhaust system was a Labree exhaust and what a beautiful piece it was. Fully polished, beautiful welds... I loved it. But, it was too loud for me. So I went to a Milltek resonated full exhaust. Quality was not nearly as nice, but it was quieter. Problem was, it was too quiet and the sound quality was not well defined, just muffled. So I figured if I wanted it done right, I'd have to do it myself. I kept the Milltek downpipes, cut the last 6 inches or so before it went from 2 1/2" to 2 1/4" and had Mufflex in Trenton, NJ fabricate a nice 2 1/2" exhaust using a Magnaflow X chamber and Flowmaster Delta Force mufflers with Magnaflow 4" tips. The result is beautiful and sounds like nothing you've heard. The sound is downright musical.
Some vids:
Lightweight Rotors
Front rotors were replaced with ECS Tuning OE 2 piece floating rotors, slotted. Brake pads are stock.
GIAC Programming
Computer was flashed with GIAC 93 octane programming for a 15whp and 15 lb/ft toque gain.
Weight reduction
Here's a quick rundown of my car's weight loss program:
Light weight battery
Lighter exhaust system
Lightweight front rotors
Removed spare
Lightweight wheels (20lb each)
Total weight savings is probably around 150lbs.
Rims
A set of 19 x 8.5" SP16a, CCW wheels finished in Black Chrome which is very similar to Hyperblack finish on some RS4 replica rims. Rears have a 2.5" lip, fronts have 1".
Tires are General Tire Exclaim UHP, 245/35/19.
RNSE Navigation with Bluetooth
One of my favorite mods to date. For music I use two 4gig SD cards filled with a few hundred MP3s each.
Stereo System
All factory speakers were removed. Dynaudio 240 GT components up front powered by an ARC Audio 100 watt x 2 channel amp which benches at 120 watts. For the rears I'm using ARC Audio 6 1/2" coaxials and a 10" sub powered by an ARC Audio 55 watt x 4 channel amp. 55 watts go to each rear speaker and then the other 2 channels were bridged mono to power the sub for about 240 watts. Stinger 12 guage HPM twisted speaker wire and Stinger Expert Series interconnects were used.
The sound... Incredible.
And I think that's about it.
